Tan yr Allt Holiday Cottages

Tan yr Allt is tucked into a hillside in west Wales with sweeping views of the Cambrian Mountains.  Its romantic self-catering holiday cottages are perfect for relaxing and rewinding. The Red Kite can usually be seen soaring above. Just a few steps away are beautiful walks in the Cambrian Mountains, yet it is only 15 miles inland of the coast where you can enjoy the beautiful beaches of Cardigan Bay, walk the spectacular coastal path, try to spot the UK’s largest pod of dolphins in New Quay, or visit the historic university town of Aberystwyth.

The property's name is Welsh for "under the wooded hill", and it appears on the earliest of tithe and ordnance survey maps.  Although it feels as if it's miles from anywhere, it is actually just one mile up a mountain road from the ancient market town of Tregaron, historically the gathering place for drovers herding their cattle, sheep, pigs, and even specially-shod geese over the Cambrian Mountains to Abergwesyn and onward to markets in England.

Kind Words from Our Guests

Y Granar, November 2023 Amanda & Martin 🐶🐶 ……………. Loved staying here! The accommodation has absolutely everything you need.  It’s so relaxing and beautiful scenery. There are walks directly from the barn and the dogs loved every minute. Gayle was so very helpful and met us on arrival to show us around. I would love to come back someday, perhaps in summer and enjoy the lovely balcony and paddocks. The local people were so friendly and the town was lovely. I would really recommend this place x

Y Granar, November 2023  Jill & Ian ……………. We had a wonderful 6 nights at Y Granar. We were welcomed by Gayle on arrival and the cottage was cosy with the wood burner lit. We enjoyed some lovely walks from the cottage and made the most of the roll top bath, very relaxing. We can recommend the food at Y Talbot, a really friendly pub. Thanks Gayle for being so lovely. Hope to be back soon.

Y Granar, September 2023 Charlotte & Andrew 🐶🐶 ……………. What can we say? Y Granar is an amazing place to stay. Not only have we had a fabulous time but Ricky & Darcy our two dogs have absolutely enjoyed their first holiday.  Everything and more was in place to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The dogs have loved running around in the paddocks and sheep watching. We've loved watching the birds on the feeders and also the Red Kites.  Beaches, coastal walks & mountain walks are all easily accessible.
Thank you so much for making us feel welcome. We can't wait to come back!

Y Granar, August 2023  Jeanette, Paul and Monty 🐴  …………….. What a stunning location to relax and unwind.  The Granary is an awesome place, everything is in place to make your stay so comfortable, from a 4 poster bed to a lovely outside seating area to watch the world go by.  We brought our horse on holiday with us, the paddocks are very spacious with lots of lush grass, we've had no complaints from Monty.  Thank you Gayle for a lovely stay

Y Granar, August 2023  Paula 🐶 …………….. A lovely stay at Y Granar. Very comfy bed and gorgeous bedding! Loved watching the birds and sheep outside. Everything you could want has been anticipated and provided, from Eco toiletries and luxurious bath robes to dog treats, lead and towels!  We would highly recommend Y Granar for a relaxing retreat and holiday.

Y Granar, June 2023  Carrie & Andy 🐶🐶 …………….. Had a lovely stay with 2 American Bulldogs. Visited some stunning locations and the dogs loved the secure paddock and sitting out on the balcony cat watching. The Granary was everything we could have wished for with a big mention to Gayle for putting in all the little extras to make our stay special.  Thank you for having us x

Y Granar, March 2023  Nev & Alun 🐶🐶 …………….. A wonderful cozy and peaceful stay awaits you at Y Granar. The accommodation was lovely with the addition of Welsh cakes, tea, coffee and other essentials provided on your arrival. Little touches like hand made soaps and cotton bed linen and towels add to the experience. The location is beautiful with lots of walks in the Cambrian hills on the doorstep. The surrounding countryside is stunning with coastal walks a short distance away. Most importantly our two beloved dogs were as welcomed as the human guests and they also had a wonderful time! Thanks Gayle for your kindness and thoughtfulness.

Y Granar, February 2023  Colin 🐶🐶🐶 ……………. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay Gayle! The Granary is perfectly set-up and runs like clockwork. There are so many extra touches and evidence of really good design thinking that it is a real home-from-home experience. The statement above is equally true for your canine companions! Tan yr Allt is perfectly situated as a 'get away from it all' base with wonderful walks available from your front door as well as easy access to the best of West Wales. Thanks again and hope you have a great year ahead.

Y Granar, September 2022  Mike, Juliet, Lily, Pebbles & George 🐶🐶🐶 ............... A lovely place to stay in a beautiful location. Very comfortable and relaxing with everything thought of. We have enjoyed exploring the area even when the weather has been less than kind. And finally and most importantly the dogs have loved it, it is so difficult finding places to stay that are truly dog friendly but Y Granar ticks all the boxes. Thank you.

Y Granar, August 2022  Robin & Barbara 🐶🐶🐶🐶 ……………… This is our second visit to this amazing place. So much thought has been put in regarding all those extras as described by the other guests. We have four dogs which no extra charge is made. This is unheard of generally. There are leads, bowls and address tags for the dogs. It has every comfort we could ask for. Huge bath towels, dressing gowns and every where is pristine clean. Oh I almost forgot - a fantastic large shower and a roll top bath. Thank you for all the facilities. We have really enjoyed our stay.

Hygge Hut, July 2021  Rose & Chris 🐶🐶 ............... Had such a lovely stay at the Hygge Hut. What a beautiful part of the world and a unique and welcoming place to stay. Fantastic place for dogs who can roam and run as much as they like in a secure and private meadow. They (and we) really enjoyed our stay! Lots of wagging tails and happy faces! Not to mention spotting hedgehogs on our wildlife camera!  Thank you both for a fabulous break.

Y Granar, June 2021 Emma, Andy & Otto 🐶 ............... Wonderful break in this beautiful granary. How lovely to be greeted by an oasis of calm, gentle music playing and soft fluffy towels waiting. The grounds were perfect for us and our wayward puppy - so much space to run, from open fields to woodland to a babbling brook - all beautifully kept and escape-proof. Thank you!

Hygge Hut, June 2021  Mark & Jen ............... We had a lovely stay in the Hygge Hut; everything's been thought of to make our stay as comfortable and well-equipped as possible. Y Granar, June 2021  Ian & Jill  🐶🐶  ............... Thank you for a lovely stay in a quiet and peaceful setting the walks are lovely and the dogs really enjoyed the freedom. We would recommend you to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing time away from the mad rush of the world.

Hygge Hut, June 2021  Meyrick 🐶🐶🐶 ............... This is a lovely break from city life. You can hear the birds and smell the flowers, everything is so fresh. The dogs loved the space. They could run and play, trot round and sniff, or simply roll in the grass. There are plenty of walks which the two and four-legged family can enjoy together. This is our second stay and won't be our last, we hope. Thanks to Robert and Gayle who make it so welcoming, with milk, butter, bread and all the other little things you find when you arrive.

Hygge Hut, May 2021  Elena 🐶🐶 ...............  Fantastic place for both people and dogs.  Couldn't be a more peaceful and relaxing place to unwind. Highly recommended!  We will definitely visit again.

Hygge Hut, May 2021  Richard & Yoland 🐶🐶 .............. Wonderful, peaceful location, love the Hygge and super secure meadow given that we have an escape artist dog. Great, friendly and helpful hosts who are super dog friendly.  Lots of walks to wear the dogs and humans out and a nice easy stroll into town for dinner. Excellent food and real ales available in Y Talbot with friendly staff. Lots of easy to reach locations like Devil's Bridge, Nature reserves and a drive across the mountains. Would definitely recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Y Granar, May 2021  Lisa & Steve 🐶🐶🐶 ............... We had a great stay at the Granary, Robert & Gayle thought of everything to make our stay memorable and the pooches loved it too. Really enjoyed Robert’s recommended walk and had a great afternoon at Aberaeron & Aberystwyth managed to dodge the weather and had plenty of sunshine. So nice to finally leave home and discover your lovely countryside and coastline. The Granary was lovely and the welcome pack very much appreciated. We will return.

Y Granar, April 2021  Mike & Jane 🐶🐶🐶🐶 ............... Wow! That was an epic effort to finally have the break that we booked so long ago and that was repeatedly derailed by COVID. Thank you again for a lovely stay. We love the fact that you consider the dogs also to be your guests. We marvel at the design of the Granary which has everything we could have needed. We recommend Robert’s dog-friendly walks having now completed them all!  We were lucky to also visit a couple of National Trust beaches whilst dogs were permitted. Robert’s recommendations for Black Covert Woodland and the Hafod Estate were also invaluable, so thank you again. Leaving reminded us of all of the extra work that you now have to undertake between guests, so we wish you the best of luck for the future and look forward to returning sometime.

Hygge Hut, April 2021  Faye & Mike 🐶🐶 ............. We have absolutely loved our stay and are so grateful for your wonderful hospitality. It was exactly what we needed. 5 stars from us.

Y Granar, April 2021  Louise ............... We've had the most wonderful time, the accommodation is perfect and set within such beautiful countryside. We've enjoyed exploring the local walks and simply staying at Y Granar and watching the world go by. You have a beautiful home, we hope to visit again! Diolch yn fawr iawn.

Y Granar, December 2020  Holi & Chloe 🐶🐶🐶 ............... Just want to say a massive thank you for an amazing week.  It looks amazing in photos, but even better in person.  Just want to say thanks for going above & beyond (Xmas tree & Cheesecake) ... Have a good Christmas and New Year! :)

Hygge Hut, August 2020  Clare ............... We loved our week in the hut. I t was a perfect holiday for our 3 dogs giving you the freedom of camping but with home comforts such as hot shower and warm cabin to make you feel clean and relaxed.  It was a great opportunity to switch off and enjoy these very private grounds.  The owners have thought of all the things you will need and left you in peace.  We will certainly go back.

Hygge Hut, March 2020  Ruth ............... The first time I arrived at the cottage, you could hear the river flowing peacefully and the singing of the birds woke you up every morning with a smile. When you walked into the cottage, you could feel the old fashioned vibe. There was electricity but you couldn't even feel its presence. Rose (my dog) was living her best life,  she was running for as long as she wanted and she wasn't stuck in a small place where she couldn't run around properly.  I will definitely be coming back to visit.

Y Granar, January 2020  Sue  ............... Excellent property for dogs. Great to have paddocks to exercise the dog.

Hygge Hut, January 2020  Gary  ............... This little retreat proved a much needed tonic, set in idyllic scenery. As much peace and quiet as you like, and our dog felt as much benefit as we did. The owners were welcoming and helpful, and only there when their input was wanted. Would definitely recommend.

Hygge Hut, December 2019  Lorraine  ............... Fantastic location, everything you need is in the Hygge .... hosts are very friendly, there if you need them but don’t bother you at all .... extremely dog-friendly, huge, 100% secure field with other fields with gate access if needed, will definitely be going again.

Y Granar, November 2019  Julie  ............... Beautiful warm and cosy accommodation. Very dog friendly with lots of little extras. Such attention to detail and we loved all the organic products and finishing touches. Thank you Gayle and Robert. I'm sure we will return.

Y Granar, September 2019  Michael  ............... Beautiful accommodation and a warm welcome. We all enjoyed the walks in a lovely setting. We recommend a trip on the mountain road. We look forward to returning one day.

Hygge Hut, September 2019 Karen  ............... Fantastic place. The owners literally have thought of everything. Great place for dogs too. Lovely walks close by. Friendly town. The shepherds hut was amazing.

Y Granar, August 2019  Allyson  ............... We enjoyed our stay and could not have asked for better weather. The Granary was a great base, and really quirky - right up our street!  Very carefully thought out facilities.

Y Granar, August 2019  Fraser  ............... This was our second stay at the Granary - just fantastic! We managed to go to places we missed the first visit. Lovely cottage, magical setting and excellent hosts. We truly chilled out and re-charged our batteries.

Hygge, July 2019  John, ............... Our 2nd visit to this tranquil, beautiful Hygge (1st time June 2018). Once again the weather was kind to us apart from a little rain Saturday afternoon/evening. Robert & Gayle are the perfect hosts - on hand should you need them, otherwise left to our own devices. The welcome pack was wonderful and Duffy loved the field, treats and beds. We will be back. xx

Y Granar, June 2019   Simon, ...............  We have enjoyed our visit very much, relaxed peaceful place, fabulously quirky and comfortable. Mixture of weather and a thunder storm that gave amazing sky.  Dogs loved running in the paddock, easy walk to the village - lovely dog walks.
