Tan yr Allt is tucked into a hillside in west Wales with sweeping views of the Cambrian Mountains. Its romantic self-catering holiday cottages are perfect for relaxing and rewinding. The Red Kite can usually be seen soaring above. Just a few steps away are beautiful walks in the Cambrian Mountains, yet it is only 15 miles inland of the coast where you can enjoy the beautiful beaches of Cardigan Bay, walk the spectacular coastal path, try to spot the UK’s largest pod of dolphins in New Quay, or visit the historic university town of Aberystwyth.
The property's name is Welsh for "under the wooded hill", and it appears on the earliest of tithe and ordnance survey maps. Although it feels as if it's miles from anywhere, it is actually just one mile up a mountain road from the ancient market town of Tregaron, historically the gathering place for drovers herding their cattle, sheep, pigs, and even specially-shod geese over the Cambrian Mountains to Abergwesyn and onward to markets in England.
Accommodations for Two
Come and stay with us, and bring your dogs to play!
The Hygge Hut rests in a tranquil two–acre meadow surrounded by trees and serenaded by the distant babble of a stream. A perfect love-nest or retreat, its only neighbours are grazing sheep.
What is hygge? [hoo ga] It's a Danish word meaning moments brimming with happiness, comfort, loved ones, favourite things and beautiful places; savouring the present moment; the good life!
Y Granar, the upper floor of a 200-year-old stone barn which was originally used for storing grain, has been converted to a luxurious open-plan hideaway with a large balcony overlooking the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains. It has an opulent four–poster tester bed with organic cotton sheets, and is kept cosy by an underfloor biomass heating system.
Foxglove Snug is still in the process of being restored. It dates back to 1911, and would have been attached to a steam roller, serving as a living van for road-menders.
It is tucked into a secret garden along with a wooden lavatory hut which appeared there in the night several summers ago, and seems to have been built by elves.

Hygge Hut, June 2021 Mark and Jen, ............... We had a lovely stay in the Hygge Hut; everything's been thought of to make our stay as comfortable and well-equipped as possible. We had a great time exploring the surrounding countryside- a beautiful part of the world we look forward to visiting again.
Y Granar, May 2021 Lisa & Steve, ............... We had a great stay at the Granary, Robert & Gayle thought of everything to make our stay memorable and the pooches loved it too. Really enjoyed Robert’s recommended walk and had a great afternoon at Aberaeron & Aberystwyth managed to dodge the weather and had plenty of sunshine. So nice to finally leave home and discover your lovely countryside and coastline. The Granary was lovely and the welcome pack very much appreciated. We will return.
Y Granar, April 2021 Mike & Jane, ............... Wow! That was an epic effort to finally have the break that we booked so long ago and that was repeatedly derailed by COVID. Thank you again for a lovely stay. We love the fact that you consider the dogs also to be your guests. We marvel at the design of the Granary which has everything we could have needed. We recommend Robert’s dog-friendly walks having now completed them all! We were lucky to also visit a couple of National Trust beaches whilst dogs were permitted. Robert’s recommendations for Black Covert Woodland and the Hafod Estate were also invaluable, so thank you again. Leaving reminded us of all of the extra work that you now have to undertake between guests, so we wish you the best of luck for the future and look forward to returning sometime.
Hygge Hut, April 2021 Faye & Mike, ............. We have absolutely loved our stay and are so grateful for your wonderful hospitality. It was exactly what we needed. 5 stars from us.

Y Granar, December 2020 Holi & Chloe, ............... Just want to say a massive thank you for an amazing week. It looks amazing in photos, but even better in person. Just want to say thanks for going above & beyond (Xmas tree & Cheesecake) ... Have a good Christmas and New Year! :)
Hygge Hut, August 2020 Clare, ............... We loved our week in the hut. I t was a perfect holiday for our 3 dogs giving you the freedom of camping but with home comforts such as hot shower and warm cabin to make you feel clean and relaxed. It was a great opportunity to switch off and enjoy these very private grounds. The owners have thought of all the things you will need and left you in peace. We will certainly go back.
Hygge Hut, March 2020 Ruth, ............... The first time I arrived at the cottage, you could hear the river flowing peacefully and the singing of the birds woke you up every morning with a smile. When you walked into the cottage, you could feel the old fashioned vibe. There was electricity but you couldn't even feel its presence. Rose (my dog) was living her best life, she was running for as long as she wanted and she wasn't stuck in a small place where she couldn't run around properly. I will definitely be coming back to visit.
Y Granar, January 2020 Sue, ............... Excellent property for dogs. Great to have paddocks to exercise the dog.
Hygge Hut, January 2020 Gary, ............... This little retreat proved a much needed tonic, set in idyllic scenery. As much peace and quiet as you like, and our dog felt as much benefit as we did. The owners were welcoming and helpful, and only there when their input was wanted. Would definitely recommend.
Hygge Hut, December 2019 Lorraine, ............... Fantastic location, everything you need is in the Hygge .... hosts are very friendly, there if you need them but don’t bother you at all .... extremely dog-friendly, huge, 100% secure field with other fields with gate access if needed, will definitely be going again.
Y Granar, November 2019 Julie, ............... Beautiful warm and cosy accommodation. Very dog friendly with lots of little extras. Such attention to detail and we loved all the organic products and finishing touches. Thank you Gayle and Robert. I'm sure we will return.
Y Granar, September 2019 Michael, ............... Beautiful accommodation and a warm welcome. We all enjoyed the walks in a lovely setting. We recommend a trip on the mountain road. We look forward to returning one day.

Y Granar, August 2019 Allyson, ............... We enjoyed our stay and could not have asked for better weather. The Granary was a great base, and really quirky - right up our street! Very carefully thought out facilities.
Y Granar, August 2019 Fraser, ............... This was our second stay at the Granary - just fantastic! We managed to go to places we missed the first visit. Lovely cottage, magical setting and excellent hosts. We truly chilled out and re-charged our batteries.

Y Granar, July 2019 Sara, ............... Great place to stay with our dog. Lots of attention to detail in providing all parties with a comfortable stay. Local walks were excellent for us and our spaniel and plenty so see and do within half hours drive. All in all lovely hosts and a relaxing time away.
Hygge, July 2019 John, ............... Our 2nd visit to this tranquil, beautiful Hygge (1st time June 2018). Once again the weather was kind to us apart from a little rain Saturday afternoon/evening. Robert & Gayle are the perfect hosts - on hand should you need them, otherwise left to our own devices. The welcome pack was wonderful and Duffy loved the field, treats and beds. We will be back. xx
Y Granar, June 2019 Simon, ............... We have enjoyed our visit very much, relaxed peaceful place, fabulously quirky and comfortable. Mixture of weather and a thunder storm that gave amazing sky. Dogs loved running in the paddock, easy walk to the village - lovely dog walks.

Our old paper Guest Information Packet has been replaced by an internal website, which is accessible whilst you are at Tan yr Allt.
During your stay, it can be seen on your own smart phone, tablet or laptop - or with the Guest iPads, which are supplied. The site tells you all about local shops, recreation, local attractions and essential information for your stay, as well as useful contact details such as the local doctor, hospital, and veterinarian.
It also contains our Walkings Guides, Suggestions for Days Out, and a Beach Guide including info on which times of the year dogs are permitted or restricted. There are, of course, also wonderful Dog Walks which go directly from Tan yr Allt - no need to get back into the car.
